Father John Balluff

I am Father John Balluff Pastor of St. Mary’s in West Chicago. It is best to start at the end. I am here at St. Mary’s since 2009 and have felt since the beginning that God’s providence led me here. I also believe part of that reason is to use my past experience in church building to accomplish a long held dream of the parish to build a space large enough to house the congregation. Now that is where some of my history starts to become important. I was born son and grandson to architects. I began at the University of Nebraska studying architecture and learned just enough to have a passing knowledge of the subject. It was there that I heard Jesus calling me to the priesthood and left to go to St. Meinrad College Seminary to complete a degree in Philosophy. I then attended Mundelein Seminary at the University of St. Mary of the Lake for five years to received an S.T.L. Then I was ordained 1988 and started serving in parish life with a short interlude of two years to obtain a Doctorate in Dogma at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Then back to parish life, including building a church at my last pastorate Immaculate Conception/Our Lady of Guadalupe in Gilman, Illinois. I have now spent the majority of my priestly service in bilingual ministry. My parishioners have always served to inspire me to seek holiness even as I witness it in their lives.

Sincerely, Father John Balluff
