An endowment fund is a way for benefactors to make a gift that keeps on giving every year towards a cause that is dear to their hearts. The interest earned from our Scholarship Endowment fund enables St. Mary’s Parish to provide support for families who find it a hardship to pay the school tuition.
Recently Father John Baluff visited with relatives of Mr. Robert B. Berkes who passed away in 2008. They related how their uncle spoke with great affection about St. Mary’s Parish School. He remembered that when, due to financial hardship, his family was unable to pay his tuition at St. Mary’s, the parish priest paid it. Robert never forgot that kindness and recently remembered St. Mary’s parish in his will.
In his honor the parish will be contributing $20,000 to St. Mary’s Scholarship endowment.
Please join us in remembering and thanking Mr. Robert B. Berkes and his family.
I recently commented on the St. Mary Parish facebook; At the recent focus nights at school parents commented on the desire to utilize email communication between the parents and the teachers; Given travel, work schedules, etc. email communication is no longer a “nice to have” but a must have in the 21st century. I strongly encourage St. Mary’s School to adopt this very critical communciation tool, which I think would have many benefits to the teachers, parents and ultimately the students. Thanks You
Jim, thanks for your comment. I believe I owe you a cup of coffee for being the first to add a comment here! Let me know when I can fulfill that promise!
I certainly do empathize with parents’ desire to open that avenue of communications. On the flip side, I appreciate that our principal has some legitimate reservations about it, and that these have been reinforced by cautionary tales from other principals. So, I’d say that if this is a key issue for you, then the best thing to do is to discuss it directly with the principal, as well as in key decision making forums such as School Board and PTO meetings.
Meeting times are listed on our calendar. I encourage everyone to attend and make their voices heard.
Thanks,
Kathy
