I certainly do empathize with parents' desire to open that avenue of communications. On the flip side, I appreciate that our principal has some legitimate reservations about it, and that these have been reinforced by cautionary tales from other principals. So, I'd say that if this is a key issue for you, then the best thing to do is to discuss it directly with the principal, as well as in key decision making forums such as School Board and PTO meetings. I certainly do empathize with parents’ desire to open that avenue of communications. I strongly encourage St. Mary's School to adopt this very critical communciation tool, which I think would have many benefits to the teachers, parents and ultimately the students.
