I am Fr. David Lawrence, I was born to William and Rose Lawrence on November 23, 1971 at Hinsdale Hospital, IL. I was baptized on December 19, 1971 at St. Mary of Gostyn Parish in Downers Grove, IL. When I was two years old my family moved to Addison, IL. My only sister, Laura, was born soon after the move. I received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation at St. Philip the Apostle Parish in Addison. After graduating Addison Trail High School in 1989, I began studies in Chemical Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana/Champaign. After two years at U of I and thanks to St. John’s Catholic Chapel and the Newman Center I was able to hear God inviting me to the priesthood.
At age 19 I transferred to St. John Vianney Seminary at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN and began preparing for the priesthood. I found much peace and joy in following this path, so I continued my formation at Mundelein Seminary at the University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, IL. I received my Masters of Divinity degree in 1997 and was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Joliet on June 7, 1997.
After ordination, I was assigned as Parochial Vicar at St. Scholastica Parish in Woodridge. I served there for four years and then was transferred to St. Petronille Parish in Glen Ellyn. In May 2004, I received the degree of Licentiate of Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Faculty of the University of St. Mary of the Lake. The topic of my thesis was the Christology of Martin Luther.

On June 21, 2017, I began my assignment here as priest “in solidum” with Fr. John Balluff, and I was installed as pastor on August 8, 2018. I look forward to getting to know St. Mary Parish and serving you in the Lord. On a side note, I experienced a minor heart attack in December 2016 so you may note my diligence in going to the gym to keep my heart strong and avoid future heart attacks.
