Who are you? My name is Fr. Andrew Buchanan, son of Thomas DeWitt Buchanan and Karen Buchanan, brother to Hannah Buchanan. 

Where are you from?  I am from Channahon, Illinois. 

What was your spiritual life like growing up? I grew up in a Protestant home, with us attending services every Sunday. I prayed very little on my own, until I seriously began investigating the Catholic Church when I was a sophomore in high school. A year and a half later, I told my parents that I wanted to convert and that I was even considering being a priest. Easter of my senior year, I entered the Catholic Church. For the following four years, I attended the University of St. Francis, in Joliet, all the while discerning my vocation. After graduating and taking a year off to work, I eventually decided to enter the seminary. I first attended the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and then I finished my last four years of seminary at Mundelein Seminary, north of Chicago.   

When were you ordained? I was ordained on June 20th, 2020, with my five classmates at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, in Joliet. 

When did you come to St. Mary parish? I came to St. Mary’s parish in July of 2021.
